Fashion Eyewear trends
Fashion month is in full swing, and even as we prepare for the colder seasons, our team has been inspired by the design vision at New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Our favorite Top 6 NYFW Spring Trends can be added to your collection today with current eyewear styles.
1 | Shiny Happy People
Libertine, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang all glanced back to the Rave culture of the early 90’s for their Spring 2015 NYFW collections. Shiny black acetate frames can mimic the latex pants at Marc by Marc Jacobs, while colorful glasses can integrate the bright spirit of the era.
2 | Underworld
Reflections on water, strong silhouettes devolving into fluid shapes were all inspirations at Calvin Klein Collection, Rodarte, and Narcisco Rodriguez. Linda Fargo of Bergdorf Goodman noted that the designs at Calvin Klein were “long and lean and clean, but the fabrics are still luxurious”. Classic frames are given fresh life with blue tones in dark navy and azure, and can also be a flattering replacement to black glasses.
3 | Bardot
A number of designers, including Altuzarra, Michael Kors and Diane von Furstenberg, drew inspiration from the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Justin O’Shea commented that the Altuzarra show found a way to “blend contrasts together”. Cat eye glasses, with their feminine upswept temples provide a perfect nod to this era and, as Michael Kors noted, “don’t you want to have a little charm in your life?”
4 | C’est Chic
If you’re looking to break away from the restraint of the 19050’s, designers Jason Wu for Hugo Boss, Anna Sui and Versus Versace looked to the decadence of the 1970’s for their Spring 2014 wardrobes. Andrew Bolton notes that the look at Anna Sui is not a carbon-copy of the period as design, fabrics and “how she styles it makes it more modern”. The essence of the era can be woven into your pieces through metal detailing, deep color tones and creative adornments.
5 | Breakthrough
Public School, Proenza Schouler, and Ralph Rucci presented a “downtown, cool, uniform, sporty edge” on the runway. Pieces that seemed restrained or tailored, when inspected had fabrics and design that displayed a deconstructed edge. Nicole Phelps notes that it is “so interesting to see them break apart these really traditional codes of Americana”. Glean inspiration from this style with traditional frame shapes that are made new with patterns and color ribbons peeking through modern acetates.
6 | Citadel
Military themes and its color palette become an ideal neutral base to allow pops of color and intricate details to shine. Ralph Lauren used cargo to highlight pieces in vibrant hues. Shades from a utilitarian theme ranged from light moss to dark olive and ranged from casual to luxurious cocktail with satin fabrics and elegant beadwork. Find the ideal shade of army greens to flatter your skin tone and provide a new neutral in your wardrobe through your glasses style.
